Associate Systems Administrator

Main purpose of the position
To assist with the support and maintenance of production applications, systems infrastructure and other services maintained by the Support Operations team.

Key responsibilities
● under general supervision of senior team members, investigate, evaluate and recommend new technologies
● act as third level support for internal and external customer problems (on call after hours)
● represent the department or company in internal and external projects, providing technical guidance and expertise
● work with 3rd party hosting providers on issues related to system and application layer changes
● perform system administration tasks in a third-party hosted environment with a focus on maintaining systems supporting Afilias business processes (e.g manage infrastructure software, troubleshoot system problems to effective resolution)
● assist in the support of all server application infrastructure throughout the enterprise at the O/S and application layers
● work with peers to provide disaster recovery planning and execution
● follow procedures for installing and maintaining infrastructure software in locally
hosted and co-located environments
● ensure adequate documentation is available for production systems
● configure, deploy and test systems and software (eg. email, anti-spam, jabber, etc.)
● maintain internal infrastructure (email, some 3rd-level desktop support, phone, jabber,
backup, etc.)
● assist in management of Windows Server infrastructure (Active Directory, Windows
Server, etc)
● assist in the development of internal tools for infrastructure management
● assist other Operations teams with design, deployment and support of existing and
new infrastructure
● assist local Toronto QA/Dev teams with installation and setup issues
● assist local Toronto staff with infrastructure related issues (eg. 2nd level helpdesk -
email client configuration, mailbox access support, LDAP/Authentication issues)
● Maintain PC imaging systems; Linux, Windows, Mac.

Technical knowledge & skills required
● 1-2 years UNIX System Administration experience
● 1-2 years experience with Linux
● 1-2 years experience with Windows Server environments
● expertise with LDAP/Kerberos an asset
● Sendmail or similar; Exim experience a plus
● familiarity with network monitoring tools a plus
● proven skills with shell scripting/Python, Powershell, SQL
● experience with configuration management technologies (particularly Puppet) an
asset
● experience with Service-now an asset
● university degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Telecommunications,
Engineering or equivalent work experience
● knowledge of PostgreSQL and MySQL extremely helpful
